Salvage Operations 2020
LOF dd 18/1/2020
MILTIADIS MII
On 18th January 2020, while approaching the port of Come by Chance in Newfoundland, Canada, motor tanker “MILTIADIS MII” (162.000DWT, built 2006) laden with HFO and VGO was immobilised due to a fault in the control systems. She was assisted in the first instance by the local port tugs while the owners signed a LOF with Five Oceans Salvage, in compliance with the local Authorities requests and in view of the bad weather forecasted for the following days. She was anchored in the bay with up to three tugs in standing by until repairs were effected. On 21 February when the vessel was repaired and did trials to the satisfaction of the local Authorities, the services were terminated and the tugs were released.

AMBER L
On 21st June 2020, bulk carrier “AMBER L” (47.000DWT, built 2000) laden with cement clinker run aground off Biringkassi, Indonesia shortly after leaving her loading port. A Lloyds Open Form was agreed between Five Oceans Salvage and her owners in the course of the day. Due to restrictions associated with the Covid-19 pandemic, salvors were unable to mobilize their own salvage personnel or assets to Indonesia. Local Indonesian flagged tug LOGINDO STURDY was chartered in to assist and the salvors subcontracted the services of the Indonesian Navy for the refloating operation. Initial refloating attempts by pulling were not fruitful and a lightering operation was organized. After lightering nearly 3.900mt of cargo onto a barge, the vessel was successfully refloated in the morning of 13th July. The lightered cargo was then loaded back onboard the casualty and the vessel was redelivered back to her owners on 15th July. After the LOF termination, the salvors provided a diving team and equipment to facilitate the Class survey required for the vessel to be granted departure clearance and assisted with various local formalities required for the casualty to be allowed to leave the country. “AMBER L” was granted Class approval and port clearance and left Indonesia to resume her voyage on 21st July, a month after the grounding.
